How to Not Blow Your Diet With Halloween Candy

Today is the day, Halloween! (My favorite time of the year)

With it comes lots of candy. Between your kiddos bringing it home, you serving it to trick or treaters, or just buying it off clearance. Halloween glorifies candy.

Don't forget that candy is not the best thing to put into your body, between the sugar and the junk that's in that little piece of heavenly sweetness you'll be feeling like crap all day.

If you're feeling extra sluggish these next couple days then it's time to toss the candy!

Even the bite size candy can add up because well who really eats just one when you have a whole stash? It's easy to grab a couple through out the day.

So I'm going to show you how you CAN enjoy some Halloween candy and not blow your diet.

This is through Counting Your Macros- I teach all of my clients this and follow it myself.

First were' going to find how many calories you should be eating and then break it down into Macros, which is short for Macronutrients and means the protein, fat, and carbs you should be eating in a day. Yes, carbs too! ;)

I'm going to explain real quick how you can start doing this on your own and get a good idea of how much you're consuming every day. If you'd like to have me do your personalized macros and give you a meal plan with grocery list then you can schedule a call and we can map out your game plan!

  1. Download the free app "MyFitnessPal"
  2. Don't pay attention to the calorie goal they set you (it's usually something low like 1200)
  3. Scan and upload EVERYTHING you eat in a week without making any changes, It's good to see and be mindful of what you are consuming and how many calories are in things
  4. Take note of ingredients and nutrition labels, does what you're eating have a good carb/protein ratio?

This will give you a good head start to counting your macros, I have all my clients do this the first week they work with me.

After this you'll take the average of calories eaten in a day and find your maintenance level. Then you'll calculate your BMR, NEAT, and TDEE to get how many calories your body should be consuming in a day to function and then how many you are already burning. This will help you find the correct calorie deficit you need to be in to lose weight.

When counting Macros it's totally easy to squeeze in a candy bar (or two) and not ruin your diet because as long as you don't go over your macros goals then you're right on track! Of course I always teach the 80/20 rule, 80% of the time you eat nutrient dense foods that will make your body happy and give it the fuel it needs, 20% of the time you eat the pizza and candy bar your mind really wants ;)

Counting your macros is a great way to lose weight without losing your mind! I don't believe in dieting, I've done it way too long. Now you can find that balance you've been needing!
